Kansas City NWSL Captain Rachel Corsie Agrees to Contract Extension Through 2023

KANSAS CITY (Aug. 11, 2021) - Kansas City NWSL announced today the extension of defender and captain Rachel Corsie’s contract through the 2023 season.

“The leadership Rachel (Corsie) has shown this year has been key for us,” said Head Coach Huw Williams. “Her importance to this team is evident on the field, of course, but also off of it as she has a great ability to help and nurture some of the younger players in a way that will only make us better as we continue to grow.”

The veteran defender was one of the original players assigned to Kansas City’s expansion roster. She has been a leader since the beginning, being named by her teammates as captain early in the season. She has been the most consistent starter for the club, logging the most minutes of any player. She also ranks 34th in the NWSL with 8,167 regular season minutes played since her debut in 2015.

“I am really excited that Kansas City will be my home for the next few seasons,” said Corsie. “The fans and the city have shown already what it means to have a women’s soccer team here. I look forward to helping be a part of building the team’s success together.”

Corsie joined the NWSL in 2015 with the Seattle Reign, making 44 appearances for the club, including the 2015 NWSL Championship game. After a short loan to Glasgow City in 2017, Corsie signed with the Utah Royals for the 2018 season.

She appeared in all 48 regular season games for Utah through the 2018 and 2019 seasons, earning NWSL Team of the Month awards in July 2018 and May 2019. Corsie started every game of the 2020 NWSL Challenge Cup for Utah, but missed the Fall Series while she was on loan to Birmingham.

An Aberdeen, Scotland native, Corsie is also the captain of the Scottish national team and has over 123 caps, adding 17 goals to her resumé. After several appearances with the Scottish U19 team, Corsie made her senior team debut with Scotland in 2009. She led Scotland to their first ever FIFA Women’s World Cup appearance in 2019, along with the 2016 EUFA Women’s Europe Championships.

Corsie and her KC NWSL teammates return home this weekend to face OL Reign on Saturday, Aug. 14 at 7 p.m. CT. The game will be broadcast locally on KCTV 5 and nationally on Paramount+.
