Kansas City NWSL Joins National Women's Soccer League in Celebrating Pride Month

KANSAS CITY (June 7, 2021) —Kansas City NWSL is joining league-wide celebrations of Pride Month in June. The club’s Pride Night is set for Saturday, June 26 at Legends Field. Kickoff is 7:30 p.m. CT against the Washington Spirit.

“Pride is an important pillar in the NWSL and our organization,” said Amber Cox, Chief Operating Officer. “We look forward to recognizing and raising funds to assist local organizations doing great work for the LGBTQ+ community in and around Kansas City. Our matches will always be a place where everyone is welcome, regardless of background, what you look like or who you love.”

For both remaining June home matches, Kansas City NWSL will wear a Pride version of its red home kit, featuring rainbow numbers. The signed, game-worn jerseys will be auctioned off at the end of the month with proceeds benefitting Kansas City Pride Community Alliance, a local non-profit providing educational opportunities, support, social activities and advocacy to enrich the lives of LGBTQ+ people in an inclusive environment. KC Pride Community Alliance is the official organizer of the Kansas City Pride Festival scheduled for August 21-22 in Theis Park.

The auction begins in advance of the team’s Pride Night match on June 26 and concludes on June 30. Fans will also be able to purchase the team’s authentic jersey featuring the rainbow numbers at Shop.kansascitycurrent.com, while supplies last.

June 26 Pride Night

For the June 26 match, KC NWSL is offering a special Pride Pack, which includes a ticket to the match and limited-edition LOVE IS LOVE scarf. The scarf is available in the team’s online store and in-stadium at home matches. The first 1,000 fans at the match on the 26th will receive club-branded rainbow sunglasses. Kansas City’s Heartland Men’s Chorus will perform the National Anthem as a part of the night’s celebration.
