New Chapter in Kansas City Professional Sports Begins Wednesday

Fans and businesses celebrate the return of women’s professional soccer leading up to home opener

KANSAS CITY (May 24, 2021) – Kansas City NWSL opens its regular season against the Chicago Red Stars this Wednesday, May 26 at 7 p.m. CT at Legends Field in Kansas City, Kansas. Several events and activities are planned across the metro, culminating in the historic match Wednesday evening.

The team’s signature color will be prominent all week throughout the Kansas City metro area as the team encourages everyone to celebrate Teal Time at home and at the workplace. 

  • Kansas City landmarks and businesses to be lit up in teal, including Union Station and many downtown buildings.
  • The historic Fountain in Mill Creek Park will turn Teal at 8 a.m. CT on Wednesday morning. 
  • Travelers into Kansas City International Airport will be greeted with signage featuring defender Kristen Edwards and midfielders Gaby Vincent and Lo’eau LaBonta welcoming them to Kansas City.
  • Fans and businesses across the metro are encouraged to participate and show their support for women’s professional sports.

On match day, Wednesday, the team has planned a full slate of activities leading up to, and through, the historic opening night game. 

  • Parking opens at 4 p.m. CT and all vehicles with a parking pass will receive a vinyl car decal.
  • Pregame performance from Kathleen and the One Nite Stand Band outside of Legends Field.
  • Schedule Magnets for the first 3,000 fans to the game.
  • Iconic ‘We Play For KC’ letter display, first seen on International Women’s Day at Union Station, will be present inside the gates for fans to take photos with.
  • National Anthem performed by Season 16 winner of The Voice, Maelyn Jarmon.
  • Halftime performance from the Marching Cobras.
  • Kickoff against the Chicago Red Stars at 7 p.m. CT.

Tickets are available as Legends Field has been moved to full capacity. Additionally, many unique premium experiences are available for Wednesday’s match, including:
