NWSL Kansas City Acquires Darian Jenkins

KANSAS CITY (Jan. 4, 2021) – NWSL Kansas City has acquired forward Darian Jenkins in a trade with OL Reign, the team announced today. In addition, Kansas City receives rights to midfielder Meg Brandt and OL Reign’s fourth-round draft pick in the 2021 NWLS Draft. In exchange, the Reign will receive forward Tziarra King and Kansas City’s 2022 second round draft pick.

The former UCLA Bruin Jenkins was originally a first-round selection by the North Carolina Courage in the 2017 NWSL College Draft. Although she missed the 2017 season due to injury, she appeared in 14 games for the Courage in 2018 and scored the game-winning goal for North Carolina against Paris Saint-Germain in the Inaugural Women’s International Champions Cup, sending her team to the ICC final.

Dealt to the Reign in a 2019 draft day trade, Jenkins played in 18 games in 2019 and all five games in the 2020 Challenge Cup for the Reign. She started 16 games and scored four goals during her time in the Pacific Northwest.

“Darian is a player that I have admired since her days at UCLA. I am thrilled to add her to our roster as I believe her strengths are a great fit for our vision of our team’s style of play,” said Head Coach Huw Williams. “To get a player of her quality, however, means we have to lose a very talented player too. We wish nothing but the best of luck to Tziarra.”

Tziarra King was the eighth selection in the 2020 NWSL College Draft for the Utah Royals. She appeared in four games of the 2020 NWSL Challenge Cup and all four games of the 2020 Fall Series for the Royals, scoring two goals for her side throughout the year.
